Who picks it up
Brush pickup in Boulder Hill is run by the Oswego Township Road District. The routes cover Boulder Hill, Shore Heights and Marina Terrace; if you live in one of the Township's country areas, you contact the office to ask for a pickup instead (Township spring newsletter; Township brush page).
When it runs
Pickup runs one week a month, April through October (Oswego Township). The 2026 weeks started on these Mondays:
Spring
April 20, May 18
Summer
June 22, July 20, August 24
Fall
September 21, October 19
The Township's fall newsletter called the Oct. 19 round the last scheduled brush pickup of the year (Fall 2026 newsletter). So for the rest of 2026, branches wait for spring or go with a private hauler. We haven't seen 2027 dates yet; the Township prints them in its newsletter and on its brush page.
How to set it out
- At the curb by 7 a.m. Monday of pickup week. Crews make one pass per month (Oswego Township).
- Cut ends toward the street, branches laid neatly and parallel (same page).
- Keep it off the street, gutter and sidewalk. Brush in the gutter can clog storm drains in bad weather (same page).
- Leave room for the truck. No cars directly in front of the pile or within 20 feet of it in either direction, or the pile waits until next month (same page).
- One pile per home, no bigger than 3 feet high by 12 feet long (same page).
What they'll take, and what they won't
Yes
Limbs over 2 feet long and no more than 5 inches across. Bundles tied with twine only, no metal wire (Township).
No
Short clippings, root balls, bushes, and branches in bags or cans (same page).
Thorny branches
Set them next to the main pile, not inside it, and crews will handle them with care (same page).
The big one: the program is for trimming and pruning, not for removing whole trees (Oswego Township). If a whole tree is coming down, plan for the crew to chip and haul it. Our tree removal page has questions worth asking about haul-away. For the pruning that this program is built for, see tree trimming in Oswego.
Trimming over the winter?
Winter is a popular time to prune, but with pickup done for the year, it helps to plan where the branches go before the first cut. You have two simple choices: stack the limbs neatly in your own yard, out of the way, and set them out the Monday morning of the first spring pickup week, or ask whoever does the work to chip and haul the brush as part of the job. If you go the second way, ask for it to be written into the quote so nobody is surprised.
Right now: leaves
Leaf pickup in the unincorporated areas started Oct. 26, 2026 and runs through November. Rake piles onto the grass next to the sidewalk or the curb, not into the street or gutter and not onto the sidewalk, and skip the bags and cans. Country-area residents call the office to report leaves for vacuuming (Fall 2026 newsletter).
Parkway trees in Boulder Hill
Montgomery's Public Works page tells Boulder Hill residents to contact the Township for street, sidewalk, tree and other parkway concerns (Village of Montgomery). The Township Road District trims parkway trees as needed at the Commissioner's discretion, removes dead and storm-damaged parkway trees along with the stump, and doesn't replace them. Planting in the right-of-way isn't allowed (Oswego Township). In the Village of Oswego it works differently; see Oswego parkway trees and the 50/50 program.
Reaching the Road District
Call 630-264-4587 or email mailbox@oswegotownship.org, and leave your name, phone number and street address with your request (Township). The office is at 1150 Route 25 and is now closed on Fridays, with regular hours Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Road District).
